    Solution to garnishment

This is purely hypothetical, but is it illegal to lie about your job on your credit report? They have had many mistakes on there in the past anyway. I say that you change it to 'Self Employed". From what I heard, they don't go after self employed because you'd never garnish your own wages. Which would effectively stop anyone from trying to collect on you until the statute of limitations ran out. Any thought?

CA's can find out if you are employed regardless of what info you put where. They make money finding out how to get money from folks, if they need to know where you work, how much you make, etc...they can figure it out. About the only solution to garnishment -is- to be self employed, change jobs a lot so it makes it more difficult to track down where you are currently employed, or work a job where you get paid cash under the table so your social security number stays off the books.

First of all, you don't lie on your credit report. CRAs don't care if you work or not. When you apply for credit you list your employer at the time. That particular creditor might furnish the information to the CRA - not you. If further down the road you leave that particular employer no one else will know where/if you work.

I actually was wondering this same question. I worked for an empoyer for over 5 years and listed them on my credit applications.

I recently changed jobs about 4 months ago and am certainly not applying for credit anymore. My question is how can my current creditors find out where I work if my current employer is not listed on my credit report???

When I worked for the state (food stamp/medicaid eligibility), I was surprised to learn that there is a database where everyone's current income (including unemployment) is listed, so no lying was possible (course under the table income is not listed for obvious reasons). Not sure if the CBs or anyone else has access to it, but I have to wonder....
          Filed BK (Ch. 7) 6/2/08
          Discharged!! 9/24/08

You can try every little scheme or nuance you want to avoid the inevitable. Bottom line, there are only a two ways to bring certainty to a debt.

            1. Pay it (in full or via some settlement)
            2. File BK.

All they have to do is run to your state's employment dept, give them your name and SS number and ask them where you are working. Remember - every quarter, March, June, September and December the employers have to send quarterly reports listing all the employees in that particular quarter. They might have a harder time if you live in one state but work in another.

To add to the above: if you are employed as an 'Independent Contractor' with an agency, you will end up with a 1099 form for the good ole IRS. It stands to reason that employers employing 'Independents' report that on a quarterly basis, too.
