I posted this on another forum, but I am so upset I need to post again!! I went to the Dr. and when I came home there was a letter stuck in the door marked "personal & Confidential". It was from M&I Bank (Marashall and Illsley) asking me to call with a note on the bottom saying it was an attempt to collect a debt. IN PERSON DEBT COLLECTION? I am really glad I wasn't home, though I probably wouldn't open the door anyway. This is for my 2nd mort. that cannot pay. I don't ans the phone because they are so rude. I am guessing this is legal, but to leave a letter where anyone can take it? (I live in a large condo complex).Advice, opinions, etc. PLEASE.
I cannot file BK for quite a while since I am in middle of law suit. I live in Missouri.
Thanks

I do believe that it is legal - just an irritating factor when it comes to keeping up with the Joneses. When are you expecting to file for BK?

Just because your in the middle of a large lawsuit does not mean you "can't" file BK. But there can be adverse consequences if you do.

Its not as common as it used to be, but sending a person to the debtor's residence to collect a debt does happen.

This sort of debt collection (notification) methodology is perfectly legal in the majority of states. However, the individual serving you with the collection notice isn't supposed to harrass you personally.

Good Luck!
