CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa A Sioux City man has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison on his guilty to bankruptcy fraud and false impersonation of a government official.

Gerald Reinert pleaded guilty in June to charges contained in an indictment last November.

After filing for bankruptcy, the 45-year-old Reinert sent letters to a creditor in March 2001 claiming that the debt he owed had been cleared by a court.

Federal prosecutors say he also produced a false document that supported his claim and told the creditor it was issued by the United States Bankruptcy Court.

During the plea hearing, Reinert admitted he filed for bankruptcy but failed to include in his petition a debt he owed to that creditor.
