Question about credit cards and homestead

So I talked with the lawyer today and he told me I cannot use my homestead exemption on a house in another state that is vacant but I can sell it to people that really want it and get the equity and put it in IRA'S. He also said it would not count as income for the last 6 months! WOOHOO!

Next, our computer crashed and we took it in to get it fixed. They told us it was done and would cost more to fix then get a new one. Problem is, we do not have any money currently but we do have a store card(best buy) with a zero balance. We looked at the computers and found a decent one for 500 bucks. We did not buy it because I wanted to check and make sure it would not be fraud. If we bought it and put it on the card and then paid it off before we filed in mid Jan, would that be ok?

    Thanks!!

A computer is pretty much a necessity these days. I don't thinl you'd have any problems since it's only $500-$600 is the preferential treatment thresehold.

So do you think that even if I put it on my bestbuy card and then pay it off in mid Jan and file the week after it will be ok? I would pay it off with paycheck from checking account. Also, how much would they consider it to be worth when I list my assets?

Mid Jan. isn't far away. Why not just buy the computer outright and skip the charge card?I'd value it at $500.
