Hello,
I start school in Jan with student loans. I'm also planning on filing in Jan as well. Is it possible that Sallie Mae won't grant me the student loan once they receive notice that I am filing BK?
I do not intend on defaulting on my student loans (and have not before).

I'm sorry but your question is more than speculation. You are asking somthing that only a palm reader could tell you. It is my opinion to pace your bk to February after your school is paid. 'Hub

If you are getting Stafford loans or other certain federal loans, no worries. They are NOT based on credit. The only way you will be denied is if you have defaulted on some other student loan. A private loan is based on credit, so if that's what you're getting, you will want to hold off on filing until the loan is dispersed.
Hmm, you are about to file chapter 7 AND put your self in more debt with students loans that cannot be discharged.

I am able to continue receiving my Stafford Loans even with the BK in progress. When I went through the process, the lender (Wells Fargo) didn't even pull my credit report. Be aware though that there are maximums, per term and overall for Stafford loans.
Private loans will most likely reject you though.
