20 Days Post-BK and New Car

So, DW and I were going to ride out her car as long as we could. It had several major problems with it that totaled out to around $6,500 worth of work. Considering that the car is also upside down around $3,000, we were not in the best position to keep it long term even though we did not reaffirm. Well, about a week ago, we realized the battery was starting to go out. It did not like to start and I didn’t want to buy a new battery knowing I was giving the car back in a few months.

Fast forward to Saturday, DW and I set a budget that we didn’t want to go over. I applied for the Capital One blank check and was denied but roadloans accepted us at 17.5%. After browsing online for a while, we found a 2007 Chevy Equinox with low miles for $10,800. I couldn’t believe it. We went to the dealer and were actually approved with $1,000 down at 16.3% for 60 months. At least the interest rate is lower that what I thought and we got the warranty on it for the next 4 years.

After we got home we called to return the old car to the lender and we were able to just drop it off at one of their branches. In the end, I cannot believe we were able to get this being only 20 days out of discharge.

So were you current on the payments when you returned the car?

WOW, that's great.

We weren't able to get approved at all after bankruptcy without a large payment. Roadloans approved us, but because my husband's salary is part commission, Roadloans wouldn't accept all of his salary.

Congrats!

Yes. We had been current on the car and never made any late payments. We actually returned the car on the day payment was due. Our first payment on the new car isnt until the 6th of February. Gives us
a little break from car payments. :)
