    Question...need bank account

Ok, we need a new bank account. Is it a bad idea to open an account with Chase if one of our credit cards is through WAMU? Would the funds in that account be open for garnishing(or just taking)? The reason I ask is beacuse we did close our credit union account as we have a car loan and Visa through it. Someone told me they can eat up whatever $$ is in the account if we are past due on our payments to the car and CC.

I dont see how a cross collaterilization could be in effect on a totally new account, but you never know. Any bank account regardless of what company owns it, would be open to a court ordered garnishment. And it was wise of you to do what you did and close the account out, my wife will be doing the same here tommorow for the same reason. We are going to keep mine open and close hers and just cash her checks, but we might try to get a new account somewhere else. Did you try any other bank besides WAMU?

Wamu was taken over by Chase in September. Do NOT open any accounts with Chase. They will rob you blind.

Good advice, they just very well might do that indeed.

Yes, I am so glad I realized this today. I did have a BofA acct. but then Chrysler kept trying to get my car payment when I hadn't even authorized it. So I closed that one, and now I can just re-open one there or try another credit union. I will talk to my DH when he gets home.
