    Harley-Davidson Cutting 1,100 Jobs

    January 23, 2009

Harley will consolidate its two Milwaukee production facilities to its Pilgrim Road location and clsoe the Franklin distribution center.

    Harley-Davidson is cutting 1,100 employees in a cost-cutting move.

As part of the move, Harley will consolidate its two Milwaukee production facilities to its Menomonee Falls location.

It will also close its Franklin distribution center.

The job cuts will happen over a period extending into 2010.

The move is a response to Harley's net income falling 58% in the fourth quarter of 2008, and sales falling 6.8% over the same period

Looks like selling antiques is not as hot as it used to be:

This is due partly by some shady loan practices that Harley Davidson had been using trying to get everyone and anyone onto one of their slow selling bikes to help get them out the door. So not even the mighty American motorcycle is safe when their financing arm deals in sub-prime loans.
