    assets received days later.

Can someone help clarify a question for me? I have a bankruptcy lawyer but she's not in the office at 8 pm. and i'm anxious for answers.

i filed bankruptcy (chapter 13) as of last week. today i learned that my aunt is giving me 1500 dollars to buy a car and insure it (my old car died a few weeks ago). This raises two questions-- is it okay to buy a car this soon afterwards? I'm talking about an 800 dollar vehicle at most. And, can this 1500 be taken from me/ mess up my case?

Please answer if you can! Thanks!

If you have job, and need a car to commute to work don't worry about it. Especially for a car at the price you're purchasing it for. You can simply purchase the car now and not list it as an asset or wait until your repayment plan has been made.

    Good Luck!

i hope you're right. i just called my lawyer and got her assistant on the phone, who told me i will have to list this money as an asset even though i received it a week after the filing??

also, (i didn't even think about this), but the car i have listed on the paperwork as an asset already, a $325 ford escort, well, i pretty much bought it for my boyfriend (it's a stick shift and i can't drive it, but we both needed cars, and it was cheap so i bought it)-- he has been planning on paying me for it and putting the title in his name. i guess that counts as transferring assets. Do you know how hard that would be, (or easy?) I guess I need a court order to do that?

This is so confusing. And talk about bad timing!
