tax question

My 60 days is up Monday, we expempt 6k in taxes, though after running the numbers Dh chose tax slayer (anyone have a better one please chime in) we will be lucky to get back 2k. should i wait until after discharge to file?
will they even give you your check before discharge?
someone said on here they do an audit on ppl that have filed, is that correct?
any advice would be wonderful thankyou.

I don't know about tax slayer, but I swear by TaxAct and I think it is hands down the best program for the money.

You can do your Federal return online for free (with e-file), and you can add a state for $13.95. I live in CO, and the state return is really easy, so I file online through the state's website. That means that taxes are completely free. Ofcourse, many states have much more complicated returns, and you may just want to pay the $13.95.

I have been using TaxAct since 1997, and I have never found anything that it can't handle - including rental property, self employment, and much more.

I found this website that reviews many packages. Although it looks like turbotax and taxcut could possibly be a little better, you'll pay $65 for a Federal and state return.
