So, today my husband got all motivated and excited thinking about buying a home. So he called a mortgage person, and he found out that after we're discharged, we'll need to send copies of our discharge to all 3 credit report agencies b/c if we don't, on our credit report, the debts we listed will say, "unpaid", and if we send in our discharge papers, they have 30 days to change the status to "paid". Is this true? We filed Ch 7 on 5/31. 341 on July 5, and our 90 day mark is October 5th.

The creditors are supposed to update the entries on your credit reports to show 'included in bankruptcy' and no balance due. They don't always update correctly though, so it is generally a good idea to start checking your report 1-2 months after discharge. Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
