    hi,
I have recently thought of filing chap 7 but am a little afraid. I started getting in trouble about 3 years ago when I lost my job. I got another in less than a month but it was quite a bit less in pay. I make about 35000 a year and am in debt about that much in credit cards. my interest payments alone are about a weeks pay. The only assets I have are an ira with about 20000. Can that be taken away?

Here is a link that might give you some insight on your question.

    Good luck.

You'll need to look into your state's exemptions. What you can / cannot keep in BK depends on where you live/file. A couple of sites where you can look up the current exemptions:

We offer Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy petition training courses for paralegals, bankruptcy petition preparers and legal assistants. Forge a successful career!

If you haven't already, call every BK attorney in your phone book and schedule a couple of consultations. You may have to call quite a few, as there is very little time left before the deadline.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.
