nope, you will keep your car

as long as you keep paying. I filed in 8/07, was discharged in 11/07, and I did not reaffirm anything. I've kept my motorcycle, thru American Honda Finance. I've kept up the payments. I don't get any statements. I just pulled my credit report (3 score avg at 650 now), and, the loan shows IIb, zero balance. They stopped reporting in Nov 07. So, as long as you keep paying, you should be fine. however, if you can't keep up with the payments, or decide you just don't want the car anymore, you can just give it back, and there will be nothing else you owe and no other reports on your credit. This is called a ride-thru, and, its the best way to go.

I wonder what causes them to stop the statements? I've always wondered that.

Your automatic stay prohibits your creditors from asking for payment after you file. Most creditors are concerned that sending statements could be interpreted as requesting payment after filing - a violation of your stay - so they stop sending statements (unless they are clearly marked as 'not a request for payment') and also cut off access to your online accounts as well.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
