Did anyone see that episode about debt collection? It involved Academy, LHR, and Final Claims Asset Locators. They tried to scare people into paying them by pretending to be police or government officials who were going to throw them in jail for not paying their debts. They were lying, of course. Any time a debt collector opens their mouth, you can assume they are lying.

The sad thing is that so many people don't realize that they can't throw you in jail for not paying your debts.

I kept thinking that if those people had just not answered the phone or hung up on them immediately, the debt collectors wouldn't have had so much power over them.


If debtors would just stop talking to debt collectors, the debt collectors would go out of business.

I caught the part were the collectors were posing as Police and then Dateline interviewed the Police they were impersonating - they claimed they could do nothing about it.

I would think that impersonating an officer is Criminal as in fraud? Does not show the real police in very good light. 'Hub

The biggest problem here is that people are so uninformed.
When I knew I was in trouble the first thing I did was google Bankruptcy and thats how I found all the great info on this forum.

At first I was scared but now I know what they can and can not do to me,I'm only 2 months behind so there not being nasty as of yet but i will know how to handle them until I file.

The crime happened outside the Police juridiction.
