Anyone have any dealings with UCB?

They have started calling me. I couldn't understand a freakin' word this guy said...I think they were from India, but again I couldn't really tell. The number was 888 861-7707

These guys are scum bags. They called me trying to collect on my Citi chargeoff a few months back. I returned their call and told them to basically pound sand. They called a couple of days later and left a messgae. I returned the call the next day. After they had left the message the previous night they proceeded to call my mother, mother in law, sister in law, and three neighbors. They informed all of them both live and via voicemail they were a collection agency collecting a debt and that "Bkorbust" had a serious problem.

I had a fun conversation with them after this and filed a complaint with the FTC. Beware they do not play by the rules.

I did a search on them and thats what I'm hearing..They are mean, insulting, lieing bags of sh--..and really are aweful. I will not return any calls or pick up..I dont think Citi is 6 months past due yet. Could they possibly be working with Chase or BoA?
How do they find your relatives? If they don't have the same last name or live out of state? Its been sooooo many years since I filled out an credit agreement (maybe since 1982ish). I don't remember who I put down if anyone at all

Was it due to filing or filing the complaint? Maybe I'll get a very loud whisle and blow really loud in their ears....seriously

I don't know, I think I'd pick up the phone and start having fun with them. It's so rare to get a collection call now that isn't an auto dialer with a recording that doesn't even give the full message.

I'd start off by asking the full name of the person who is calling. It's only fair if they have yours. You can let them know after they tell you that you want it so you can find their friends and family too and let them know what a filthy scumbag collector they are related to. Then I would put the "f-word" in every sentence while talking through a huge grin. "I'm sorry, wtf are you talking about? Who the F do I owe how much Fing money to?" Fit in some more curse words. Make nearly every word of your sentences profane. Don't give out any personal or financial info while doing this.. just have some fun. Keep it up until they hang up on you. If they tell you they are going to hang up then wish them a great F'n night with a big smile in your voice.

I once sent a C&D to UCB and never heard from them again. The account went to a legal firm in Washington. I sent them a request for debt verification and never heard from them again.

I think it was Cit. I'm not sure what is going on with the account at this time. Stopped paying on a settlement agreement many months ago. I'm guessing I heard from UCB about 190 days after first default. ABout 45 days later I heard from a CA legal firm. It's been another 45 - 60 days since I DV'd. Its been about 9 1/2 months since first default.

Aren't they all like this? Every collection agency I have dealt with has been like this.

Just send them a cease and desist letter in the mail, and they will stop calling. They are not the original creditor, so they have to stop calling if you send them one.

They were calling me for awhile and I sent them a C and D letter, and never heard from them again.

The only collection agencies which completely ignored my C and D letter so far are West Asset Management and Phillips and Cohen Associates. I then reported them to my state's attorney general and they stopped calling after that.

So, for the most part, the C and D letter works on most collection agencies.
                    The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

                      Hilarious!

I talk about my bowel movements with collection agencies sometimes. I am often surprised about how long they stay on the phone with me even when I talk about such things.

Another fun thing to do is start speaking in a different language. You don't have to know anything more than a broken accent and "I no speak english" and see how many translators they send you to.

UCB used to call me trying to collect on an old utility bill that I since then included in my BK. The collection letters that I used to get says they're in Toledo, OH, but they are foreign, and I believe they are located elsewhere.
