Student Loans totalling $4k were included in my BK discharge list of debts in Feb 2007. Student loans are not normally discharged, that I know. After my discharge, my student loans on my credit report showed a zero balance and "paid as agreed". I received a letter from Federal Student Aid 18 mos later stating that I still owe. Sent my discharge papers in and they say I still owe. Been making payments agreed upon. However, I still question if I need to repay this. In my discharge file, even though listed in schedule of debts and I don't see anything saying that that is exempt, do I owe this or not? It is understood that even if listed, it still must be paid back anyway?

I believe you will have to pay this. If waiting too long, even in bk, they can garnish for those as they are exempt from inclusion on your discharge. The Credit Bureau is not a legal agency and for their own reasons can say zero balance and discharged. Means nothing, but may be helping you on the Credit side for anyone who looks at your records for your aid in getting a loan. ‘Hub

Unless you filed an 'adversary proceeding' specifically to discharge the student loans then they are not discharged.
