Bankruptcy and Felony Conviction?

I was told that I can't go bankrupt due to a felony conviction...is this true? I live in the State of NJ!

Also I'm currently engaged, can my future wife's credit be affected if I decide to go bankrupt before we get married?

anyone can file BK, even with a conviction. However, some of the criminal "debt"incurred as a result, may or may not be dischargeable depending on the circumstances.

Criminal debt? Anyhow I was involved in a fight when I was younger and charged with assault. My debt has nothing to do with my crime.

How about the my concern about my fiancee?

By 'criminal debt' I'm sure he meant court fines related to your conviction or probation fees or the like.

It should not impact your fiance's individual credit but if the two of you try to apply for any type of joint loan or credit card account, you could get turned down because of your BK. Her credit alone, though, should remain unaffected by your BK.
