question about car, in possible bk

I'm disabled and recently began receiving SSD. I have about 40K in cc debt and a 3K small claims judgement. Since I have no assets, home or car, I considered bk, but was told I don't need to file because I'm judgement proof, but if I go back to work at some point, then I can consider filing. I need to get a car asap because I live far away from buslines and can't even get to the grocery store, post office, etc. I soon expect to receive some SSD back pay, about 7K or so. The options I have considered for this is a "one-pay" auto lease, where you make one lump sump payment for the lease rather than once a month for a 3 year term. The other is buying a 4-5K car in cash. Considering the outstanding judgement, cc debt and a possible bk somewhere in the next year or so, which of these two options sounds better for me to be able to keep the car? I'm afraid to have a car with a title in my name which was why I considered the lease. Has anyone had any experience with a one-pay lease while going through bk? Can they take a leased car back after you pay them the lump sum? Any ideas, suggestions or advice is appreciated. I'm a little overwhelmed with all this right now

What state do you live in, Dana951? (I'm asking so we can figure out when/if you do file Ch 7 how much car equity you can protect.)
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !
