As noted in the ch7 forum, I filed on 10-15-05 but the cc is still calling. Because of court delays I did not have my case number until today.

I read here that even giving the case and atty #s won't be enough, so what should I do? Send them a certified mail or something?

Another matter came up. A relative of mine died, owing her hospital about $4,000. She reportedly had no money at all.

Does the debt go to her next-to-kin? That person lives in another state and can't be contacted at this moment, while I am the only relative of hers who live in the same state.

If they come after me I would simply tell them to get lost since I don't owe THAT debt and did not inherit anything from her (she had no will).

I had had creditors call after i filed and once I gave them the case number and lawyers name that was the end of it. I did have on call back and I got firm with them, I said "so-&-so called on this day, I gave them all the info, case number and lawyer, yet I get a call today?" she apologized and said it must have been on automatic call she apologized again and removed our account. all you have to do is remind them they are violating the automatic stay and they could be legal action taken against them and they should back off, most companies are cool about it.
I did heard of someone who was having a hard time, yet that person has a lawyer and the lawyer should be handling it for them, that's what we pay them for.

When my mother-n-law passed away 2 years ago she was in debt BIG time. LOTS of medical bills and credit card bills. What we had to do was call these places and send them a copy of the death certificate. Most wrote the debt off. It went to probate court, and since she had no property, they rest of her debt was basically wrote off. If she had something of value, I guess it would be sold and the bills paid off. My hubby being the oldest son of 4 children saw no bills except the the funeral arrangements and burial.

good luck to you

Yes, we saw the same with my Gransdmother. She died with all of $62.00 in her checking account. Funeral ran $4,500.00 Plus, Mom gave up her plot. That alone was $2,500 also.
