can my company fire/do something to me?

I am transferring to a new area next month. A different state. We'll leave after the hearing. Will my company(telephone company) deny my transfer or promotion? I belong to a bell company credit union, which I believe is private from the company. Will this affect my employment since I have loans with a credit union in which I belong to because I am a telephone company employee?

It's my impression that your employer cannot fire you or discriminate against you in any way because of your bankruptcy. Frankly, it's none of their business! Your loans with the credit union should have absolutely no bearing on your employment status. The credit union, after all, is just another financial institution, even if it does share a common name with your company of employment.

It may be in your interest to affirm the debt with them. In my case the Director is also president of the CU Board.

In other words it may not affect employment, but can it influence promotions.

If Bell System is still the same tight family as it was when i was growing up the above is definitely true. we wer South Centralers who transferred to Southern Bell in 1971 and everybody still pretty well knew everybody.

It would help to know who the Officers are. Some CU's will continue your relationship with full benefits if you sign a a note to continue to pay them. At that point the BK would probably go no higher than the main Office and not to a Board Member.

My Dad was a Ma' Bell Engineer from 1939-79. My Mom was a supervisor for operators and was employeed for 28 years by the time she died in 1969 (She started at 16). I know the Tropical Telco CU well from that, also the fact that our Union President's wife is also the Prez. of that CU.
