I am curious as to how people are handling their private (non-federal) student loans after going through Ch 7 since obviously they cannot be discharged. Do they come after with avengence right away -- trying to get judgements/garnishments, etc? Or do they try to work with you to get a lower payment set up...do they even care?
The reason I ask is because we were planning on filing several months ago, then decided not to, and now again it looks like just have to (recently laid off and things are just out of control now!). My forbearance on my private loans ran out several months ago, their collectors are hounding me like crazy. They won't work with me what so ever. We are planning on filing ch 7 in the next month or so, but am concerned what will happen after our ch 7 is finalized...perhaps it will be worse with student loan collectors than it is now!
