We have a family member who has recently bought a home that we wouldn't mind renting from him, and potentially buying once our credit gets better and can qualify. He already knows about the BK. Any suggestions?

I'm always skeptical of renting and family relationships. I've done rentals for many years, and am not interested in renting to family. It seems that problems can develop that create friction in the family.
If you and the family member are sure that you can do it, be careful and have everything written down, dated, and signed.
Treat it as a business matter, not a family matter. All information contained in this post is for informational and amusement purposes only.
