Just filed papers for bankrupcy after being out of work several months. Was just notified by SSI that my disablity back checks were being deposited in my checking account. Is that money exempt from collection? Waited so long hate to lose that money.

Back Disability Checks Deposited In Checking Acct.
Just filed papers for bankrupcy after being out of work several months. Was just notified by SSI that my disablity back checks were being deposited in my checking account. Is that money exempt from collection? Waited so long hate to lose that money.Tags: None

(IMO) Yes, those checks are exempt from anyone trying to collect.
I'd equalize them to getting SS or IRA or any retirment payouts. However, as always, check with a lawyer.
(Note: Just checked online for an answer and a lawyer said "Generally, these benefits are not attatchable or available for garnishment, as always check wiht your local attorney for complete considertion of your situation")
