A checking account has nothing to do with a bankruptcy unless the bank you are going to deal with does a credit check on you and uses this information to Approve/Disapprove you based on that info. If you are turned down by a bank try another, some bank in your area will give you a Checking Account I'm sure.

It depends. Did your financial situtation resort in you having to write a lot of bad checks that were never cleared? Because if this is the case you were most likley reported to Check Systems. Which will make it extremely difficult for you to acquire a Checking account or Visa Debit Card. Just about every bank nowadays conduct credit checks on members opening a checking account.

If the above scenario is not you. You should be able to open a checking account even with a BK on your credit report. Worse case scenario is, you'll be required to open a "secured" checking account with the bank to reduce thier liability.

Good Luck! :)
