    Collectors Names

I don't know if anybody has posted this before but when dealing with a collection agency can be really hard. I once worked for a Collection Agency and I know for a fact that we worked under an "alias" on our correspondence. Have you ever asked for the person's name and they reluctantly will only give you their first or last name. Even on the correspondence if you have a certain name and you ask for them, but are transferred to someone else.

I am not implying it to all Collection Agencies but I worked for one and was assigned an "alias". The reason I'm unsure for our protection or other reasons. I'll never know. I guess at a collection agency thats why we worked behind bars. Just a window to walk up to for service, to protect the employees.

But always ask for their full name and extension. They will always most likely always just be short with you or not give their full name.

Did this make sense, or did I just babble! Has anyone else shared the same experience!

I depends....I had a few CAs who I was able to deal with the same person nearly every time I called, and they were actually half- way decent .
Oh the other hand I have had a CA who transferred you to someone else when I asked their name...weird huh ? I really doesn't matter. I sent a certified letter to a CA and it was signed for by "VP" . Well when they stated that their office never got the letter I told them that "VP" signed for it and they said their is nobody here with that name....so go figure. I ALWAYS try to get someones name, and if they do give you a fake name or alias you are out of luck...they will just deny it down the road.

Legally, they must disclose their correct name if you ask. If you don't ask, they can tell you anything. I worked for a CA - very briefly - and that one one bit of the regulations I learned.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

I've also worked for a collection agency before, and we had to give our first name and last name initial. I believe it's against the law to use an alias.

I'm not a lawyer or legal expert, just offering advice on what I may have gone through and/or have knowledge of. Good luck!

In a perfect world it would be nice for CAs to follow rules and the law. But we all know they DO NOT..LOL My only comment is how can you prove that they gave an alias? You really can't, I have EVERY name ever given to be when I have talked to the CAs, and there is no way to prove anything, even if you record the calls it's hard to tell. When companies have multiple reps..they can say anything...LOL

my brother in law works for a collection agency. they used to use fake names, but some states don't allow it, so it's now their policy to use their real ones. He always liked thinking of cool names... One of his favorites was Cash Lawman... he's such a turd, and no, he doesn't know we filed! lol

when I first saw this, I figured I'd not see alot of letters, cause we don't like alot of profanity here...

But I sure see what you mean and yes, I have something like that happen..But usually it was "Oh they're no longer here ("Then why did they say call back on so and so date?") but I can help you!"

              BS artists one and all....

I presently work for a very large company that does its own collections, (so it's not third party) and we were told that we could use an alias ONLY if we used the exact same one every single time. I always give my legit name, I've been on the other side of the phone before so I have no issue with it, and I always try to be understanding as well. But, once the accounts get so far passed due, they get moved to another office, where the person can speak with the same person each & everytime. The one thing the place I work at is very big on is not giving our exact physical address for safety reasons.

I have no trust of CA's,, I am sure they don't follow the rules, most of us debtors don't know the rules anyway, until it gets to this point. They know it too and will take advantage of it. "FEAR FACTOR" . Now I know better but never plan on putting myself in the position of dealing with them anyway. And if I do someday at least I'll know what to do and how to deal with it, I hope the general public can learn their rights too.
