    Costs for PACER????

Can anybody give me an idea of how much I will spend if I use the service? From other posts it looks like it may cost more than a few dollars. I understand it is $0.08 per page but a few have said they were charged a lot more than they thought they used. It sounds like it will give good info on my case but I sure don't need another freakin bill right now....

you are billed quarterly, if it is less than $10 they won't send you a bill. try not to check it but once a week. keep track of each days usuage.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

You gotta be careful with PACER.

I don't have a clue how much I've spent so I'm staying off there.

We are new here and don't know anybody much. Never mind asking for a BK attny referral. I was trying to get a feel for how much experience different attnys have, if they had a bunch of pre 10/17 filings, have they filed anything new since kinds of things. I also wanted to look at some other people's cases to help with itemizing expenses, how much for different things other people had claimed, and such. One attny's cases filed list was 49 billable pages at PACER. That's one web page of links to all the cases that attny has filed. Not looking at any case. Just the links, by name of person/couple/company that filed, and the date they petitioned. 49 pages.

I've looked at a few cases. The Documents filed for a BK case typically run in the 32-35 page range. That's the petition, all the schedules, the income and expense sheets, etc. PACER will sometimes cut you a break when it's a larger number like that. Most times it tells me I've only been charged for 30 pages.

There's a little box at the bottom of the web page you can watch for. It will tell you how many billable pages and the total charge for that particular page you see on your screen.

Just don't make the mistake of downloading your entire case. Or anyone elses. You just search by social security number, and only your case will come up. Then you only want to download certain pages. Deadline/Schedule, Docket Report, History/Documents, and Status. Those are all the pages you need to look at to see if anything new has popped up. Its .32 to check all 4 of those pages, and you would have to do that over 33 times to exceed the 10$ and actually receive a bill. Keep your usage under $10, and it is deferred indefinately.

I think the costs on PACER also depends on how you access it. (Ie, in through the PACER website or what not.) I've gotten one bill for something like $12, and I check it on a nightly basis five days a week. PACER does have a feature on it that allows you to check what your current bill is, so you don't get any shocks and can keep track of how close you are getting to the $10.

If you're just wanting to check on your case, you shouldn't have a problem keeping the costs down.

If you try it use it for research to learn, you can run up a big tab rather easily.

Use the Search tab above and enter Pacer. There are other threads where people give tips on how they use it and keep the costs down.

the problem is that some people know how to work with computers and uand some dont, and then there is pacer which some of us cant figure out how they bill sometimes (like me) and added to that is the pacer people are obsolute dipsh*ts most times. all this doesnt make a good combo for figuring it out. lol

but look here, it will be fine. all you need pacer for is to see if an update was done on your account. dont use a search screen that doesnt allow you to put your social in. thats were one person here was getting charged for each search for her account. find the query screen that allows you to use your social. type that in and hit enter. its free it seems to me. then when your case comes back it will have a header at teh top middle of the screen.

all you have to to is look at the 'Date Of Last FIling' and if it changed then you know someone added something to your account. if not then dont bother go rumagging around. nothing was added.

to see what was added just use the 'Docket' choice. it will show the latest item that was added.

if you stay under $10 then they wont ever charge you.

it should show a charged amount box at the bottom of each sscreen that costs you money. its like a receipt added to the bottom of the page. you can track how much you use each time by this. its 0.08 cents per page.

one of the biggest problems that confuses people is when they dont go to the main pacer site and check their account bill. if you only check you account bill at the local pacer page using inquiry then you only get the local charges.

if you go to the main pacer site then you can check your entire bill. allthough ive been confused at that site as well. i cant figure out yet when the charges from each court post to the main account. and the dipsh*ts that asnwer the phone dont know anything sometimes, but act like they do.
