    Checking Accounts--

Is it possible to open a new checking account at banks like Wachovia, Citibank, etc after filing or do they reject the applications? Does anyone know or had experience with this.

verious ones do check credit allthough i dont know why.

do a search using the link in my signature line and look for 'friendly' or go to creditbaords . com and and look at their section on friendly banks.

I opened a checking account at Chase Bank with no problems, but it was also only two days after filing, so I can't tell you whether that was because they didn't care about my BK, or because they didn't know yet. My guess is that it was the latter. So if you haven't already filed, you might want to try something similar.

I did have one scary moment as I was opening my account. The clerk came back after being away for a few minutes and said to me, with a serious look on her face, "it appears as though you are on our list". After a 2 second pause that seemed like an eternity, she added that I received some extra benefits as a result of my company's corporate loyalty plan. Grew a few more gray hairs after that one...

It really does pay(no pun intended) to keep a checking account active or open a new one prior to filing BK. The banks will check your credit and history for NSFs, etc. However, credit unions are typically more forgiving. I agree too that Chase probably didnt know about the BK yet.
