    ANYONE using www.privacymatters.com please help

After reading a lot of posts about checking credit reports and scores for an entire household I decided to go with privacy matters. Well I am now thinking it was a mistake. They told me it was a $1.00 signup fee for 7 days and then 14.95 per month after that. I sign up and then check my check card balance and I have been docked $100.00. I call privacymatters and they say they have not charged me yet so I call my bank and they say it is a charge for privacy matters. I call back privacy matters and they still give me the run around. Even if it is a pending charge you do not hold $100.00 for a $1.00 charge. Has this happened to anyone else using this place? I could wait until tomorrow to see if the charge drops but the entire process has pissed me off so bad I dont want anything to do with this site anymore.

Sounds like they put the decimal in the wrong place. Sorry that happened to you because I certainly don't like holds on my debit card, especially when it is incorrect. It takes them a second to process it but 5 to 7 days to reverse it.
    Discharged 2/27/06, closed 6/1/06

Someone at www.privacymatters.com finally just said there was a "glitch" in the system. Whatever! I cancelled my account and they tried to give me a free gas card. I declined and told her that if they cannot be trusted with my checkcard then I sure as hell dont want them holding on to my credit reports. There is no doubt they are a third rate company. Their customer service tried to help but of course did not have enough information. They just wanted to get me off of the phone and move on to the next person. I wrote their customer service department an email letting them know what happend and that I expect the entire $100.00 credited back to my account.

I better not start getting unsolicited emails from this place.

Well Yes I do and I love it!! I have been using them for about 2 months now and Staci here uses them also.

I totally understand what you mean about the "pre-auth" on your card. I had a different company do that to me, they put in a charge for $1,285.00, instead of $128.50. Imagine my SHOCK!!!!!! Well I wrong charge "fell off" with my bank because the wrong charge never came through. It's just like if they swipe your card twice on accident at the store, it does show a "pre-auth" for 2 but only one "accurate" charge actually comes through.
I believe you jumped to conclusions...they have been great to EVERYONE else.

However..... the fact that they tried to make it up to you by offering you a gas card shows they try strive for excellent customers service. They didn't have to offer you ANYTHING!!!!

        I love my service!!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I've been using them for a little while-did the $1 for 7 days, and have been billed the $14.95/monthly to my debit card 2X. No issues here...
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

You won't get a credit of $100 no matter how much you complain, e-mails or letters you write. It is a PRE AUTH!!!!!!!! It shows at the bank, but it is not officially charged yet...so there is no official credit due!!!! Privacy matters "pre-authed" your bank, so yes your bank sees it, but technically Privacy matters never "CHARGED" anything YET, so their is no credit due to you. I used to work for a bank I know how these things work, I used to have customers call all freaked out, and I had to explain to them.
Yes they must have misplaced the decimal point....NOTHING on their site costs $100!!! Honestly I'm surprised your bank doesn't realize a pre-auth from an actual charge?? They need to get on the ball!!

Oh and by the way...when you sign up for Privacy matters, it is a 7day trial.....so they don't "charge" monthly dues until after the 7th day anyways.
I signed up on Nov 13 2005, and was "PRE-AUTHED" for $1.00, the ACTUAL charge did not come through until Nov 17th, 2005, about 7 days later a charge came though for the $14.95.

There is no doubt I jumped the gun but I did so with good reason. I made a purchase over the internet for one dollar and get pre authorized for $100.00?
And then no one at the company is any help and has no idea what is going on? Their error could have caused me a lot of headaches if I would have had a low balance in my checking account because even though it is a pre auth it still takes away from my available cash. .

This also happened to me they charged me two hundred dollars. When I called the company they said no charge was put on my card however my bank said otherwise. I had to fill out paperwork at my bank to cancel my card and because the charged was consider to be fraud. What a hassle I would tell anyone DON'T USE THIS SERVICE.
