    Creditors Judgements

Typically how late to your payments to creditors have to be before they will take legal action seeking possible garnishments and the like? Anyone have any experience with this? Just wondering if it happens after a few months, a year, longer? Won't a lot just send the account into collections or sell to an outside collection agency?

It all depends on how aggressive they are! I had a CC with a balance of $642.00 and they never did anything but make phone calls, and send it to collections for more phone calls.
Then on the other hand, we had a Orthopedic doctor's office try to sue us for over $1800. But I called them on it and made them check their numbers and found out it was only $234.00, however the court date was already set, and so they got a judgment on us.

So it all depends. I had bills from one hospital in the $15,000 range and they never did anything but phone calls. So again it depends on how aggressive they are.

I'm sure others have more experience with this.

My debt ($50K) was all cc...from 2002...they took two and a half years to catch up with me!

I got the nagging phone calls and just kept ignoring the mail...till I got a judgement last summer on my Citibank account of $25K...not fun...so I then decided bk was the only way to pull out of the mess I had created. You can stall the collection agencies for six months to a year or at least I did...but, with all the bk's going on, I bet they're all more aggressive now!
