    Credit score

How does one get their credit score? I would love to see what mine is now and compare it with what it will be once I file and then to see it build back up again!
I'm not willing to pay to get this information, anywhere you can get it for nothing?

It generally does cost money to get your credit score.

I have been obsessing about mine since I was discharged (not yet closed due to IRS tax refund check).

But, yes, you do have to pay and it's also, (I think) can take your score down a bit when you check...I'm waiting at least a year before checking mine...I have my experian information, which was helpful...16 good accounts, 16 not as good....

When I read this and remembered that I'd done that. Progressive will tell you your Credit Score.

        You can try that.

When you pull your own credit, it does not affect your score like it does when others pull your credit. Pulling it yourself doesn't create a negative 'inquiry'.

Just a FYI - dont freak when you see your score post-BK. It takes a few months to see any difference and that is from cleaning up your accounts. Trust me our BK was discharged in August of 2005 and we are still fighting with Trans Union just to make them make the changes. They agree and then dont change them. It is so frustrating. Also, we joined Privacy Matters so we could check on both my husband and my credit scores and it was not a good experience. Both of us were approved for low limit credit cards, we have been paying on them for months in full at the end of the month and our scores never budged and in fact my husband's dropped. PM pulls from TU...I called PM's hand on this and they were supposed to respond within 2 business days...never heard a word. I did pay for my FICO scores..next will be DH's and it was in the high 600's. So moral is check your own scores and reports. PM may work for some people - it didnt for us. And they overcharged us for the service. It is expensive to keep monitoring them because other than your free credit reports you have to pay for everything but right now all of us post-BK may need to do just that. While your credit score wont drop when you check on it it will drop if you have too many inquiries...
