Discharged from a Student Loan or two

I have THREE student loans. I filed last year and my discharge JUST went through a couple of months ago. And my name was taken off of TWO of my student loans! I'm SHOCKED. The co-borrower on my loan is in SERIOUS debt and I'm trying to get them to file now...I'm THINKING that there is a big possibility they will also get discharged if my name was taken off due to my bankruptcy. The two loans were PRIVATE loans...anyone else experience this - ADVICE??

Many private student loans are not govt. based.... thus they are dischargable in bankruptcy. If you had a co-signor on these loans NOW they will go after them.....

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

wow - honestly i was SHOCKED to find this out. my parents are the co-borrowers. what KILLS me is that I despise my father and would LOVE to stick this to him but I cannot because of my mother. i've tried to get them to file and TOLD them I would pay for it but they won't even consider. they are in HORRIFIC DEBT and cannot afford to live! my father has been out of a job for well over a year. but my guess is that the jerk is involved with some shady activity - which is why he won't file. they are 7 months behind on their rent of $1400 a month. GO FIGURE - !

i think bapcpa changed that, undue hardship has to be proven in all cases now,
sorta up to the judge. the co-sign discharge thing just transfers burden, it does not discharge the debt.
