This same thing happened to my grandparents too, and the thing is, I never lived with them! I'm living in Arizona right now, and they are way up in Oregon, and yet they are getting calls from collectors asking for me. It was embarassing for me, I had to admit that I'm in serious financial trouble, and explain everything to them. Then my grandparents called my parents and now they know about it, too!
Simply telling collection agencies to stop calling over the phone won't do any good. You have to put it in writing. But in this case, I don't think it will do any good because they were discussing my debt with my relatives, which is a blatant violation of the FDCPA anyways. I don't think they care about the law, and at this point, it's too late to save face with my grandparents anyways. But hey, they still love me, and even offered to help me pay off these debts, but I told them "no". I don't want to pay for my mistakes. I'm just going to wait and see what happens.
Anyways, I told my grandparents to blow an airhorn in the phone everytime they called up there, but they said they would just lay the phone down and let them listen to television until they hung up.The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

This is a sad situation. I can remember back 20 years ago giving them my parents phone number as an emergency contact. Had I known then what I know now, I would have never doen that.
If you file, won't that make the calls stop? Why are you waiting to file?Chapter 13 Filed 4/03/06  341 Meeting Complete 5/11/06 :yes2:
