What should I do, in your opinion

This really isn't Bk related, but you guys give such great advice so I thought I would ask anyway. Here it goes. We are filing Ch.7 BK on May 22. I have to have my wisdom teeth pulled on Monday April 24th. My insurance requires that I pay 210.00 dollars up front for the visit. We get paid on April 28th, so I called today and asked them (the surgeons office) if they would hold a check for me until Friday. Of course they said no. We don't have the 210.00 right now, but could possibly have it next Friday. So I guess I could either take out a payday loan (which I know are bad) or I could ask my parents to borrow some money until next Friday (really don't want to do that because we have relied heavily on them in the past).

    What would you do??

    Thanks,
    Natalie

      That is really harsh!!

We had just gotten back our extended warranty cancellation and the auto insurance cancellation a few days before we went to our Consult with our attny. I forgot, however, that I'd gone to the grocery and we'd filled up a tank of gas. So I sat there and wrote the attny a bad check. Payment in full for his fee and our filing fee.

On the way home, I had this odd feeling about that check. Jumped on line and checked the bank balance. Sure enough, we were about $100 short. So first thing the next morning, I called the paralegal and asked they would hold our check for deposit until Monday. I explained what happened, told her that Hubby got paid, and we'd deposit his check later in the day, so the check to the attny would be good come Monday. She said, "Not a problem." They didn't cash our check until the end of the next week.

Don't borrow the money. Especially not from a PayDay loan place. And if you deposit cash from your folks to write a check to the Dentist, you may have to explain that.

Since they are being such butts about it. Call to reschedule your appt. Hopefully you can get in before you file.

I would definitely not do that.

You have a BK date already scheduled. That's knowingly taking a loan with the intent to file BK on it.

Might as well just whip out a CC and pay the Dentist's bill.

PAYDAY loans were created by the devil for the tourcher of man! Stay away! It will just get you in deeper. If god forbid, your BK doesn't get discharged (for whatever reason) then you'll really be stuck!

Tell them they either hold your check or you will need to reschedule.

I would reschedule since they won't hold the check. Dentists make me sick; they are so totally uncooperative. Our dentists are on my husband's dental plan and their office is very close to our home. I like the dentists but the receptionists are total witches. I got into with one of them over a bill. We have dental insurance but she wanted me to pay the rest of the balance upfront. I told her I had arranged with the dentist to pay it in 3 payments. She said they never did that...I asked her when she got her DDS...end of subject. I paid in 3 payments. The dental offices think because you have insurance you have a couple of thousand sitting around gathering dust. I have since reconciled my differences with her because I had to given they are the only game in town - for now. And I also asked her could she pay a few thousand for dental services? No answer...enough said. And under no circumstances would I do a payday loan. I fell into that trap too. The interest they charge is outrageous but we do what we have to survive sometimes. Hopefully, I will never have to do that again. Oh and by the way I have also looked into going to the dental school in midtown to have my dental work done. I need a bridge and a crown. Your case has to be a teaching one for the students and if it is they will take your insurance and they charge about half of what the dentist charges. The downside would be they take longer and it is a hike from where I live but for 50% or more I will definitely do it...

I can tell you what I would NOT DO-- and that is take out a payday loan!!!
I am ROFL at NascarFan, but he/she is right as rain on that one. They truly
are from the DEVIL!!!!!! In fact I think I would risk having my teeth fall completely out rather than use a payday loan again!!!!

I would reschedule it if its something that can wait a while.

Pay day loans are the worst

I admit that I used some payday loans in 2004. The first one I took out was for $400.00 and as soon as I got paid I paid it off immediately. I needed that $$ to pay for car repairs. The next time I used the same company for another $400, I wasn't as fortunate to pay if off immediately. I needed the $$ at the time for food and groceries. I should have charged what I could on my CC's. After the fees and extending the loan (you pay additional fees to do this) It cost me the original $400 plus fees of over $400 so I coughed up $800+. The company tried to offer incentives to make it easier to use their loans through the use of a debit card. I cut up the card. I can't judge people because I was desperate but steer clear of these companies.

Yes, SBB, I have been their desperate victim as well, several times over....!!
Thats why I speak so strongly against them now. I think there are a lot of us that feel that way.
