OMG! A creditor was just nice to me!

OMG! This creditor just called me for $600 outstanding medical bill. She started sounding like a really big B!tch. Then I explained that I just got turned down for a HELOC, am trying to re-finance my house, and told her that if that doesn't work, it will come down to BK. She said, "I'm sorry that things have been so hard for you. Do you have a time frame for when you might have more info?" And I said that I don't really know at this time. She said that she won't bother me, will note my account, and call back to check up on me in 2-3 weeks. Wow, she actually sounded sympathetic by the end of the conversation.

Glad there are some nice creditors...well, nice people calling for the creditors. You actually told them you had a plan you were executing. What can they say.

I'm batting about .500 right now. A mix of nice people who sound genuinely concerned and the voices that go dead as they say, "Oh."

No one's been outright snotty or mean, but some people aren't as kind as others.

They all have one thing in common tho. The line. They all say it, and it's almost the exact same words too.

"Tell me what's going on. Your payment history was perfect until just recently. What happened that's caused this?"

I didn't catch it until I'd talked to 3 or 4 in a row one day. Then I realized I'd been hearing almost the exact same line from every one of the Service Reps I'd talked to. Just some were warm and sympathetic about it. Others were rather cold and distant.

they are probably making 8.00 an hour, worried or affected by outsourcing and facing similar problems, the wine of revolution ferments... the Army is refusing to shoot... and beginning to turn on the Officers... yikes...

We only bk'd on 2 credit lines, with total of about 5K (most of our stuff was
medical and mortgage arrearages) and the one was persistant but not rude,
but MBNA sold their account to BLine or something like that, and there was a HIDEOUS woman that would call and make all kinds of threats. That was the only experience I have had with a really nasty creditor. Boy was I glad to tell her when we filed.

From some other threads I read that if they here BK, they'll sue before you can file. I guess I won't mention the BK word anymore.

Most will not sue because if you are at the bankrutpcy stage, they know they will not get much, even in a Chapter 13 and none in Chapter 7........ They won't go to the extra expense of filing a lawsuit....

That's nice to know, since I read another thread (don't remember which one), where the creditor sued before the BK could be filed.

They can sue before the bankruptcy is filed, but the debt can be dissolved in the bankruptcy.

That may be a rather insightful take on the genuinely sympathetic sounding Reps we're talking too. They know their day is coming, just when is the question yet to be answered.

I pulled one of my Credit Reports today. It was interesting. Seems 3 or 4 of our CC companies have been busy doing numerous pulls on our credit. 1 each the end of March and 2 each so far this month. Hummmmm..........

And one I talked to one on Monday in my round of phone calls answering the nasty grams and Call our Collections Dept statemtents. The Rep said their records showed we had $58K in debts. I laughed and said try way more than that!

So that's how the chick knew some sort of number to toss out. They've been checking up on us!

When MBNA called me concerned about my high balances, they knew to the nats ass penny how much I owed. Hell, I didn't even know.
