Needeless to say if you've read my posts, I wasn't worried about getting an attorney! Maxed33 robivi3 02-27-2005, 09:54 PM rlgrace1 --- The "stay at home Mom" is an honorable proffession. My wife was a Mom at home back from 87', up until 2001. She left being a Paralegal on 1/14/87. (It was alot of fun). We struggled, but paid cash for everything in the early days days. I cherish the memmories. I hate the fact that she is working now. If you can do it, it is worth the struggle. The memmories you build at home (including digging up the septic tank because your child flushed a small teddy bear!) are the best in the world and no money can erase them. I have always told my boys that there is no amount of money that could purchase one single memmory i have of them and it is true. After Hurricane Andrew (92) our situation improved dramatically. Our first big CC debt was in 99' and that began the downward spiral. EdytaHome 02-28-2005, 01:16 PM US Navy Corpsman veteran, a chemist and most recently a stay at home MOM! Out of all these, the MOM is the most challenging, trust me........ I plan on staying home with my little one for a couple of years and than it's back to industry and the lab bench. robivi3 02-28-2005, 10:38 PM God Bless the "Stay at home Mom". Not everyone is able to do it. That's understandable, but as one great man said "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the Nation". God help us when the Government rocks every cradle. saboten 03-01-2005, 08:52 AM Office manager & part-time translator of small master distributor of non-invasive medical device. rberhow 03-09-2005, 08:11 AM Robivi-I just had to write and thank you for your support of us Stay At Home Moms. In this day and age, we tend to be looked upon poorly like we are lazy and unwilling to work. My husband and I share your same view and are grateful that we can make it work for me to stay at home right now. I thank the Lord above for giving us this opportunity, we feel blessed. Thank you again for your support and very thoughtful post. I appreciate it more than you can imagine. valleyfever 03-13-2005, 08:06 AM To add to the medical persons in this thread. Was a Certified Nurses Aide for 8 years (working everywhere from the critical care unit to the o.b. unit) got burned out (too much death) and went to being a secretary for a farm/John Deere. Been there 5 years and have to say it's a LOT less stressful. Something that amazes me, is I worked in the medical profession all that time and $9.75 was my highest pay (working 12 hour night shifts with no breaks for 7 straight hours)... and I make $13 an hour as a secretary that is a much easier job... I just don't see the logic in that. People in the medical field get lousy wages around here and it's just SAD. I applaud those of you that work every day to care for the sick and/or dying. xapooh 03-14-2005, 08:22 AM I'm a full time Nail Technician. specializing in Your nail care needs. BrokeCh7 03-17-2005, 05:49 PM When it comes to living i like to go to the beach or travel. When i need money to do thease things i own a small business hoping i can start living one day not working hand to month. mark 04-23-2005, 02:55 PM Isn't it ironic that the reason most non-medical employees need BK is the outragous bills we face after visiting you. robivi3 04-23-2005, 02:59 PM These are Nurses and people who serve. Nurses are the front line soldiers. You pay your Soldiers, I don't them to worry about anyone but me. But of course that isn't the real world. My Daddy always said (my dad really did always say this), stay away from rich doctors and poor lawyers. The truth was that his doctors were all affiliated with Vanderbilt University and the like in Nashville, and i recall riding with one attorney he hired that drove a beat up old Buick, so even he did not heed his own advice! Chiropractic is the step child of health care, if I got payed what I actually billed out for I would not be here. However, that is not the way Insurance works. I am still learning that part of the business. After 6 years I could not justify the stress with the financial return sooo. I Tried a different field, went into a family business (inlaws) enjoyed it for a while, then it got to be a little scary after 9\11. So started up my own practice again and have struggled to stay afloat. At least I am doing what I love to do now, even though it is a finanacial struggle again. I think if I can make it through bk (have not filed yet) in about 3 to 5 years I will have my life back. My hats are off to all the stay-at-home moms but I also give MANY KUDOS to all the working moms out there who have to struggle with 40+ hours a week on the job only to work even harder when we get home and then feel nothing but guilt when every other mom you meet these days is able to stay home. And a mom who wishes she could stay home with her child. I am the primary source of income for my family, as well as the source of health insurance, so I go to work. accentone 08-31-2005, 09:27 AM hey robivi3 and everyone--I am a proud stay at home mom of three kids, ages 11,14, and 16. For you moms out there who go back to work when the kids get older ... think again. This is when they really need you. My 16 year old comes home from school everday and talks to me, tells me about his day, tells me everything. My 14 year old, well, God only knows what he would be doing if I didn't get home till 6 o clock. He's a loveable, but mischevious little boy. What I'm trying to say is, these are the times when they really need guidance. They need someone to be home waiting for them. That is what I do. kclayton74 09-01-2005, 08:54 AM I'm not a stay at home mom, I'm jealous. I work for a hospital and I'm a Resource Accounting Analyst. I'm in school for nursing and information technology. I work in the IT department. Minera 09-03-2005, 08:52 AM I am an office manager at a software company, and my husband is a CDL driver currently out on workman's comp. We have one child together, a 3 year old. StaciMM 09-04-2005, 06:16 AM I am an accounts payable clerk for a property management company. The company manages apartment communities in GA, FL, AL, TN, NC, SC for various owners, and I process all the invoices (vendors, utilities, etc.) for payment. Well, not all of them, I handle 11 properties right now, though I'm due to get more next week. (Who would someday like to finish an accounting degree.) I work 8:30-5:30. My husband works as a night stocker at a grocery store, and is expected to be promoted to an assistant-assistant manager role in a few weeks. The raise is almost nothing ($.40/hr) but there is a good opportunity for advancement. It isn't too far fetched to expect him to be making an extra $1-2/hr within a year. It isn't too glamorous, but the hours (10 pm-6am) mean no child care expenses... He also works part time, running customer service calls for the area newspaper. (He takes out papers to the customers who call in to say they didn't get one.) Its lots of aggrivation, but our 3 year old daughter can ride with him, and the 5 & 7 year old can also when they're out of school. Genenco 09-22-2005, 05:04 AM I can't believe I haven't responded to this thread! I am QA staff at an assembly plant of a major TV maker. Before you think "Oh, you get great deals there" let me assure you, I DON'T! :aggress: I (And so are you) MUCH better off buying at the local retail shop, they have a better warranty (Our reworked models only have 90 days) and the return policy is far better (None as we're given free repairs, but you have to wait 1-4 months for parts) A trick for you to remember (This goes for ANY TV maker) is if you get a set which has more then one set of staples in the box, you got a "Tested unit" which went through the "Wringer" and if it's in your hands, you have a "Primo set" as it's shown it's toughness and I'd have NO worries it'll ever die or when it does, you'll be old and gray. :yahoo: ronnieandsuzie 09-26-2005, 06:44 PM :clapping: I am a stay at home mom to two boys 5 and 2 1/2 years old. My husband is a very under paid Sheriff Deputy. Can you believe that our income is only $250.00 to much for us to qualify for Income Restricted housing! Pretty sad when the law enforcement communtiy is forced to live in poverty! A Deputy should be able to support his family as a one income family. BUT only the Sheriff and his buddies are getting fat and wealthy dirty little theivs hiding behind a badge :aggress: Pinktiger 09-26-2005, 07:55 PM I teach at a small university, where I'm paid poorly. So last year I decided to get into real estate to see if it would help. It has, but not enough; the first year expenses did me in. But what really did it was my husband's poor health and the medical bills we couldn't pay. The hospital charges that our terrible insurance didn't pay, along with the high copays on prescription drugs have bankrupted us. But, next year, with what I am starting to do in real estate, I expect everything to improve dramatically. :yes2: jennga 09-28-2005, 09:44 PM I am a RN and Licensed Professional Counselor, although I certainly do not counsel clients on financial matters :> After filing bk and before coming to these boards, I felt unworthy to advise anyone on anything. I am feeling stronger now. In fact, I feel so much more knowledgeable than I did before. I would feel guilty and helpless before if a client talked about financial issues (and believe me most of them do), now I just do my best to point them in the right direction and put that particular problem in the hands of a different type of professional. almost_homeless 10-05-2005, 07:41 AM I am a Family Service Worker for the Head Start program. They call mad, I argue for about an hour over all kinds of different laws, and then tell them sorry it is against the law, you can't close it unless you change this or that... I am corporate, so... what I say goes... :) Funny thing happend today, I was listening to a conference call that was happening between branches, and a person actually was talking about corporate, and called us corporate idiots... apparently they weren't informed that we were all asked to listen in... nothing like calling the Vice President of Compliance an idiot, and then all of us auditors too!!! Before I even knew he had a cc, he was almost 7000 in debt, and the snowball just kept getting bigger. Went to college to become a veterinarian and chemistry did me in! Have been handling personal and commercial insurance claims for 20 years plus. Make decent pay. My ex was in sales and made very good money. I have gone through downsizing and lack of jobs. My boyfriend was layed off from UsAirways as an airline mechanic and has had a difficult time finding a new path. He has tried various "hats" and so has not had any actual money coming in for about 3 years. Unfortunately with the downsizing and unavailability of jobs at one time, going through a divorce, etc.....drowning in bills that I cannot pay. Looks like I'll be able to go CH 7--no home and payed for 1998 VW are basically my only "assets". My attorney gave the heads up after checking everything on the form they use. Thank god! Actually my boyfriend not having a job right now helped a lot as well for now. Cannot wait for the process to be over....having car issues and doing the-----do I pay rent? We must eat.... The car is not running yet....will this part fix it? Keep getting rides/borrowing wonderful friends car to get around.....thank god for such true and wonderfuls angels on earth...... Putting off paying utilities until absolutely have to so we can get the car going again. My immediate family---sister and parents----are not in much better shape than me so we really cannot help each other other than emotional support. But all in all I try to focus on what I do have and keep a positive mindset and as 'ole Joe Dirt says...."Keep on Trucking"! debtisbad 04-08-2006, 07:48 AM If so many people are filing BK, can't find jobs paying anything, why did George W say yesterday that the economy is in the best shape ever. I, for the life of me, cannot figure out where. SinkingFast 04-08-2006, 09:23 AM I heard the economic report yesterday on the noon news, that 210,000 jobs were added nationwide to the economy last month. I'm thinking, for the most part, that's probably 210,000 new minumum wage jobs. debtisbad 04-08-2006, 06:50 PM Sinking, it is all the new Walmarts, Targets and Kmarts opening. I heard the same thing. On another board that I participate in we are "discussing" how Americans are loosing all of their rights. It is not a BK board, but rather people talking about employment, ect. Most of the people (to my knowledge) have not filed BK but are complaining about employers doing credit checks. They are shocked that employers want to know all their personal business. I, on the other hand, am not. Have you ever heard of the parable of the frog. It is about a frog that sits in hot water. The water keeps getting hotter, but the frog does not notice. Then one day, the heat gets too hot, and the frog just dies. I am starting to believe that is where we as Americans are. The heat keeps getting turned up on us. Everyone wants to know everything about us. We loose rights all the time.....but nobody notices.....or if they do they do not care because "it does not personally affect them". Then one day, the table turns, and all of a sudden they are affected......but it is too late.....and nothing can be done. Is that where we are headed as a country??????? SinkingFast 04-08-2006, 08:10 PM We have a relative that went on a trek thru Europe last summer. One of those things that kids in college do. Ride the trains. Stay in hostiles. In the 7yrs that the children have been on this earth, I would swear that at least 6yrs of it she has been depressed. She feels that she should react in an angry manner whenever there are stares or comments about the special needs children in public. I'm so sorry to hear that. Developing that "thick skin" isn't always easy. Has your daughter seen a therapist? Or would she be willing too? It may help her to talk with someone about her feelings and to help develop some ways to cope with having children with special needs. Depending on your grandkids age/s she may even be able to get some free counseling through the Birth to Three (or Early Intervention) program. I can't say I will ever get used to the stares or comments but I try not to let it get to me. My oldest is severely autistic so it's usually obvious to people that "something" is going on. I was a paramedic for 9 years but had to leave the job do to a back injury. We live on a very tight budget. We figure that as long as we have food on the table, clothes on our backs and a roof over our heads that is all we need. We had to file bankruptcy in 2000. Got our priorities wrong and had to have the newest vehicles and the fancy things in life. As we found out that will lead you to the poor house quickly. We had alot of fun laying down the plastic til it got to a point that we couldn't any longer pay the payments and were so far in over our heads there was no daylight to see anymore. My father worked in education for a few decades and said teachings a great job man! Anyways, I have decided to not have children and to not work in the medical field. I am artist but because of psychiatric problems I had trouble obsessing, organizing, and concentrating, amongst other things, but orthomolecular psychiatry is going to change that...right?!!!!. :D I AM FUTURE LOTTERY JACKPOT DECA-MILIONAIRE! :yahoo: *If for some odd reason that was postponed, which would be inconceivable, future office worker and wife to a decent man. hycheese 11-21-2007, 01:05 PM I'll chime in here to keep the ball rolling- As of last Saturday I was a process automation electrician, today an unemployed vagabond. missem 11-30-2007, 11:33 AM Hi everyone, I don't post much but ... I bring in a small amount monthly merchandising. Don't feel bad if you don't know what that means, I didn't at first :D I mostly work around Christmas with occassional jobs during the year. Most of what I do is arranging Dearfoam slippers at local department stores and making sure the displays are kept stocked and neatly arranged. I also do audits, mostly compliance of franchise locations for various brand name companies to ensure the franchise is following the company standards. I'm trying to find more companies to get small jobs with so I have something regular every month. In Dec, I get to visit a bunch of stores to put new stickers on gum packs :) Hubby can't believe I get paid to do stuff like that. isitreal 12-11-2007, 08:47 AM In this day and age, we tend to be looked upon poorly like we are lazy and unwilling to work. This forum has been tremendous and I only wish I had found it earlier!!! FLBK7 01-21-2008, 08:44 PM I worked for a major insurance company for over 15 years and lost my job when they merged and consolidated operations with another company. That was one of the main reasons for my bankruptcy, since I had a hard time finding a job after that and when I did find a job it paid way less than I used to make. I now work for my county government and although I don't make much money (much less than I did in the private sector) I have good benefits including good health insurance. I'm a middle manager. It is very stressful some times but I am very grateful for the job. truckerswife 01-21-2008, 08:50 PM I work 3rd shift in the inventory department at Kohl's e-commerce. I seem to remember that when I was in HS, Special Education teachers got paid more than regular teachers, because they needed additional accreditation.
