    Open Checking Account Pre-BK

I opened a checking account before filing for BK since I saw how hard it could be to get one later, plus I'm afraid that the credit union where I have my checking, savings, money market (all $0.10 of it), and HELOC might stop everything during the stay.

They gave me a checking account and debit card. I deposited $10.00.

For now, I'm not going to touch it at all.

I'm assuming I have to list this new account when I file, right?

After filing, should I have my paycheck direct deposited to the new account (we can't get physical checks) and pay my mortgage, etc., out of it?

my suggestion would be to open yet another new account the day or so after you file.

Actually, the recommendation I read on here when I first joined was to open a new bank acct the day after you file BK.

That way, the new bank acct is not part of the BK Estate, AND, your BK filing won't have had time to hit your Credit Reports, or Checks System or whatever, any of the public access reporting systems.

Best as I can tell, our bank isn't owned by any of the Banks we have CC's with that we're BKing against. I did see one scarey thing about our Bank. They use Chase Cashier's Checks. I researched and can't find a link between our bank and Chase. So I asked at the bank one day if they were owned by Chase. Nope. They just use Chase Cashier's Checks is all.

We stopped Direct Deposit some time ago. We use Debit Card, Money Orders, and Cashier's Checks to pay for everything so the money's immediately gone.

Definitely change your Direct Deposit to another bank acct. Just as a CYA.

Oops, I guess I messed up. I opened it up with WAMU.

When I'm talking about direct deposit, my paycheck is directly deposited into my checking account. I've stopped most of my direct payments.

          Checking Account after Bankruptcy!!!!

I can really say before i filed bankruptcy no one would give me a checking account. But now, i have 2 checking accounts and one savings and can get approve with no problem. No red flags in chex-systems. Hooray!!!

Fortunately, I had never bounced a check so I guess that's why I still got one with lousy credit scores.
