Credit card necessary?

Thankfully we are to the point that we are concentrating on rebuilding our credit. My question is, do we have to open up a credit card account to rebuild our credit. We were discharged in July. We reaffirmed our mortgage and truck loan and have been current with every payment on them since. The only payment that we were late with was our phone/cable and since they are a tiny company, I'm assuming they probably don't even report to the credit bureaus. I just hate the thought of even owning another credit card. I don't trust myself and don't want to fall prey to my awful habits of "Oh, we'll just pay it off when we can." We are getting tons of credit card offers in the mail on an almost daily basis that state "pre-approved" and have a low introductory rate  and an annual fee of $19. So I'm thinking our credit must be improving if they want us back. LOL So do you think our mortgage and car loan is enough or is the evil credit cards the fastest way and the best to rebuild?

In that situation your best bet would be to get a secured credit card. That way you put what you can afford into an account with the credit card company and that is your credit limit. If you default on the balance then they just take the money that you originally had put into the account that way you can never overextend and wont go late. The house and car will help but most companies and the 3 major bureaus want to see at least 3 major tradelines on credit, in order to build a deep credit history. If you need more info on this topic dont hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
