I would recomend reading the "rebuilding your credit" area here. I would also get a new lawyer and discuss what your previous lawyer messed up on.

Okay I have a few questions...you graduated from college...and filed BK on a few credit cards that were charged off? Sounds like maybe BK was not the best solution for you. Typically those of us who filed had thousands of dollars in credit card debt, medical bills, etc...How much did you actually file on? Didnt your lawyer have you sign off on what was filed? You gave him a copy of your credit report as a guide on what to file on? Our lawyer, and most lawyers, require copies of credit card bills, medical bills and the like; I have to admit I have never heard of anyone using a credit report because quite frankly they are not always correct and they certainly are not up to date. Very bizarre. However, your BK was granted and it is a good thing that you are now monitoring your credit reports. As for items that are incorrect; i.e., employment, etc., you can dispute the reports with the 3 credit reporting agencies either online or by sending your challenges to them - preferably certified mail. As for what accounts are actually charged off or should have been charged off in a Chapter 7 situation we were told if we omitted accounts from our list they were still discharged. Have you had any notices or bills from the creditors who were not included? You can also include in your dispute with the cc agencies the names of the creditors who should have been included. More than likely you will have to provide them with a list of those creditors. You should have received such a list when your BK was discharged. As for the student loans - have to plead ignorant on that one - dont know much about them but sounds like the person you spoke with is knowledgeable. Several people I know have worked out a deal with settling on their student loans so I think in some cases Sallie Mae and others are happy to get anything paid on them. Let me also suggest going to creditboards.com; they have great info on disputing credit reports. I would also pose some of your questions with them - they have a lot of really knowledgeable people on that website. You might also check the internet for BK websites...I bet you can get information you need on your own. You might even call the trustee or BK clerk in your case and see if they can help. It sounds like your legal beagle was just anxious to make a few bucks...regardless you have to get this sorted out asap. Drag out all the paperwork the lawyer gave you and make sure you get it settled this time...good luck!

My Bankruptcy

Thanx for the info...In regards to filing...I was asked to get a copy of my credit report and I had a meeting with him where he went through it. I was also to provide my current bills and a break down of everything that I spend money on.

He did include my student loans on my filing; However, what I know know after the fact is that you can't discharge student loans. The bulk of my debt was in student loans about 20 k left. At one point in collage I had about 6 or 7 accounts open and i paid them all off and closed them...When things started to get a little rough I opened a few accounts and I would say that amounted to about 10 grand maybe more and where I had trouble paying off...some went in too discharge..some where bought out and another collection ageny had them and some where discharged...but this was like 3 or 4 years ago...i know this is stupid...but I literally did nothing except ignore the situation back then....

I will check out the credit boards...If i were to go to another lawyer...where do i get a recommendation to go to and how much will i look to spend this time around ?
