I have just made an appt with a bankruptcy attorney. Following a divorce and some pretty poor choices I have ended up over my head in debt and feeling optionless. I really know very little about bankruptcy and until 4 years ago I had impeccable credit and more money than I knew what to do with. Now I find myself robbing Peter to pay Paul every month; juggling money, selling items, and never having enough for the basics let alone anything extra. I have kids and I never buy or do anything for myself and frankly, I'm tired of working and never even being able to afford a new pair of shoes or jeans. I'm not greedy by any means, but the struggle is just getting so old. So, today I contacted a bankruptcy attorney and I have many questions.
I am about $14,000 in credit card debt, most which has been to pay bills or buy things that were needed. I own a Suburban, which was purchased prior to the separation and now I'm stuck with a $19,000 loan and am upside down in the loan, as the car is worth about $12,000 because of the very high mileage. It's a gas hog and very expensive to insure. I'm very worried because the two credit cards I have are also in my exhusband's names so if I discharge the debt, then he will be responsible. I'm just very, very, very stressed out and worried about this. I ran my credit report yesterday, and it's not too bad, with a few 30 day lates. I was late on my American Express 30 days and they called it in and I had to borrow the money from my mom- $4500. so, I just need some advice, which is why I'm going to the attorney. I asked him if I should pay my car pymt on 3/5/05 and I was told no, but then I wonder if I'm doing the right thing....OMG, I'm going nuts. Any feedback out there??? Sorry this is so long.
Thanks
Kathy
