Hi guys, I'm new I'd really appreciate your help

    Hi

Here is a brief summary of my problem

I used to live in the US, I had a student visa 'till 4 years ago when I couldn't renew it, well since then I've lived in the mexican side of the border, and I just went on with my life, I already finished school, got married, etc. but I have a big problem, I still owe just over $5,000 us dlls. in the US 'cause I lost control when I had my visa card and I spent like crazy, well I called and made some payment arrangements with the citi group guys, but one day my payment got there like a day or two late and they turned my debt to a collecting agency, and they've sent me a letter telling me that I need to respond otherwise they'll assume it's valid, and well I actually want to pay my debt, but I could only make very low partial payments, the thing is that they can't actually take anything away from me 'cause i don't live in the US, I can't go there 'cause I dont have papers, my parents bring me my mail every week end, but I don't have any property in the US, not a house, not a car, nothing, but I still want to pay, and I've thought about bankruptcy, but I don't know too much about that, what do you guys suggest I should do?

    Any advice/comment will be welcome

Is the $5,000 all the debt you have? I wouldn't go bankrupt over 5,000 personally. Do they even technically know where you live? Could you possibly be judgement proof? When was your last payment made?

If you're not coming to the us and resume your ssn - forget about it. It will gain you nothing.

Concentrate on building your credit in mexico.

Well don't file bankruptcy over 5K thats just crazy. Lastly, your over their in Mexico and if your not coming back to our great land then forget about it. The statute of limitations is usually just a few years anyway on any unsecured debt.
