BKFORUM.com (BKF) users agree to use the search function before starting a new thread. This prevents duplicate discussions and allows for better organized topics.

All BKF users agree to read the sticky posts which may be available at the top of a forum page. These Sticky posts often contain valuable information. They may also outline more rules and guidelines specific for that particular forum, stickies are put in place by that forums moderator(s) or admin(s).

Things you agree not to do:

All BKF users agree not to call people names or write a post simply to make a personal attack, or get a negative reaction; this behavior is not allowed on our forum. The use of derogatory language aimed at anyone will be severely dealt with. There is no need to agree with each other, or to even like each other. However, by signing onto BKForum.com you agree to treat each member and guest with the respect they deserve. No threats or personal attacks will be allowed.

If you wish to discuss bans or warnings please do so via PM. To place a complaint against a moderator, send a PM to a super moderator. All Moderators are equal, any decision made by a moderator must be adhered to. If a moderator tells you something you do not like, do not go to another moderator looking for a different answer. If you are caught doing this you will be banned. The moderators work as a team and respect the decisions made by their peers and will help enforce them unless an administrator tells them differently.
If you have an issue with how the forum is run, then notify one of our administrator and we will look into the situation. • The stigma with bankruptcy

I filed on Dec. 29 and received my notice of the 341 meeting on the 25th of this month (January). I now can't access my bank account online nor can I access my car loan info online? Seems I have been restricted on the car loan site. I am going to call the bank to find out WHY I can't see my account online anymore. Since I have filed and my creditors have been notified, do I now carry a Scarlet Letter with anything my name is tied to?

Do you have your bank account(s) with a creditor you are including in bk? It is generally advised to switch banks before filing, if this is the case. I'm sorry if you didn't know. Sounds like more headache that's not needed.

If it makes you feel any better, no. Not everyone you ever do business with is notified of your bk. Only the ones who are included. We had no issue with our bank accounts at any point, and we even got through Chapter 7 with some of our credit card accounts remaining open.

This is actually a credit union, sorry I didn't mention that. But I've had this account since High School (i'm in my 40's now), and my home equity loan is through this cu as well as my direct deposit. I did not reaffirm the loan, but I am keeping my house and will continue to make the payments, as I am still current on them. I was able to access the account yesterday, but I can't today. I just wondered if this had anything to do with the bk and not sure if my cu was notified that I am in active bk?

I was not informed that I should have closed account and changed banks, so I was somewhat confused today, when I could not access the account online nor through telephone. Guess I will have to call tomorrow and see what I can or need to do. sigh

They would have been notified because they are included in the bankruptcy due to the home equity loan. All of your creditors are notified & that debt will be discharged if you do not reaffirm. Yes, I'm sure it's related to your filing. Once they are notified, the automatic stay is in effect and they IN NO WAY want to make it look like they are trying to collect a debt from you.

I hope you can get it all straightened out on the phone tomorrow. Good luck!

So update: I called my cu and they said because they got notice of my bk and my home equity loan is tied to my bank account, they cannot let me see the balance of the loan online. She said because of the bk, they just can't do anything that acts as if they are trying to collect a debt from me, until my bk is resolved. I told them I am still going to make my house payment and need to do so this week and she said she just needs something in writing from me that says I would still like to continue my banking, online services. She also informed that in no way were they going to hold any funds from me or keep me from my money currently in my account, I will still have access to all of that, but legally they can't put my loan information online which could act as though they are trying to collect that debt from me. So good news, I can stay with my cu and continue my services. The cu representative from the loan dept. was REALLY nice and helpful with me.

Glad they were able to help you. I always kind of wondered why the banks cut off online account access after the filing, especially since I started getting paper statements from them again (all marked "this is not an attempt to collect a debt," but still...)

I have been watching my mail carefully for the tax forms for the few mortgage payments I did make last year before filing. I used to just print them from the online accounts rather than wait for the one in the mail, but that's not an option anymore.
