Question Are you satisfied with your attorney?

I did shop around and must say that I am now regretting my decision with this clown. I sat down with him a few months back and told him (prior to filing) that I wanted to go elsewhere because of an absolute lack of response from his staff on my questions, etc. He then spent 2 HOURS with me later in the evening to review everything and put together a game plan. Then they filed the OLD version of the paperwork!

After I approached him on this, he backtracked and told me flat out, "I was just trying to get you into a certain mind set, not that I was actually going to try that technique!". Which HE BROUGHT UP at the 2 hour meeting.

Again, poor support staff, lies, and cover-ups.

I will not put out his full name (Lozano), but I am not pleased at all with this low integrity clown.

Curious if others were having better success with their attorneys?

Ha! We haven't even spoken to our attorney. Everything in our case has been handled by paralegal, except for our 341 meeting, where a fill-in attorney showed up late causing us to get bumped to the bottom of the docket (we were listed as #7..grrrr). Luckily, our case is going smoothly with only a couple of objections by our trustee at the 341 that have already been amended. We are using what some call a "bankruptcy mill" and so far it hasn't come back to bite us on the butt! KNOCK ON WOOD.

I actually had a great one. Very young but sharp and personable. Everything was handled promptly and accurate paperwork submitted. I admit I was nervouse when he put my expenses higher than the standards because being under median, I didn't need him to do that. Sorta felt dishonest. He assured me the trustee would not even blink, it would be over in 2 minutes and was absolutely right!!

I was discharged and closed yesterday with NO problems.

Hope yours all work out for you!!!!

I was very unhappy with my first attorney. Never met him - he was part of a popular mill here in Fl. I dropped them when they were barred from filing BK's a few months ago.

I'm very very happy with my new attorney. Office staff is great. He's straight to the point kind of guy.

Same here. Whether I e-mail or call, it's usually at least 24-48 hours before I get an answer. I guess what seems urgent to me is business as usual for them.

Absolutely NOT. I am still amazed at the pre vs post payment communication. Right now, two days in and still waiting for a return call - and this call i am waiting on is just to remind him to send an email of what exactly he filed like he promised 8 days prior. My message certainly deserved a response. The VM i left " Hi Henry, This is ____, Last we spoke you hung up on me while i was mid sentence, stating you had another call. I had been waiting/thinking you would call back as that is generally what i expect when one gets off the phone so abruptly. Anyway, PLEASE call me back as soon as you get this message."

So far i feel duped. It's like i payed now, so what. If everything goes smoothly with the 341 and remainder of case then i will be alright. If all this poor communication/lack of concern ends up being general ineptitude - He will have made an enemy and i will do everything in my power to slander his reputation.

I'm actually fairly happy with mine. Last summer, when it became inevitable that I would file, I shopped around and met with 3 lawyers FTF. The first one, didn't bother to meet with me himself, but sent his paralegal instead, so he was out. The second was more of a generalist and wanted to push me into what ever was easiest for him. The third, though he didn't seem to be all that friendly, is a bk specialist and did appear to be the most knowledgeable.

Well, I went with my guts and went with my 3rd candidate. And I was right, he is very knowlegeable, I had to start reading (taking books out of my local library) and reading these posts on this wonderful forum, to know what questions I should ask him. He has been very thorough, for example, provided me with lists of what he would do and what I should do before and after the 341 and a list of services with prices that weren't covered in his fee. He wrote letters to help me stop a couple of pending lawsuits. Then at the 341 he had copies of everything that might be needed. I sure was glad I followed instructions and only brought the required DL, SS card and trustee payment. Should have brought a wheelbarrow though, to take my stack of paperwork he handed back to me! LOL

One thing, however, he is not the cheapest. His fees, 1/2 of which were folded into my chap 13 plan, came to about $4,000. But I can say so far, he has been worth every penny of it.

At least you're getting your money's worth---and FTF?

Yeah, that is what's important. FTF...is face to face, in person.

I returned all the paperwork along with the final payment over two weeks ago, and I never heard drom my attorney after that. I've been calling their office and finally I got the legal aid to tell me that I should be filed in the last week of August. I am really devastated by this. I thought he would have filed as soon as I paid.

My plan (confirmed) is very different from what we spoke about in her office. Still awaiting her response/explanation.

Mine was a big mistake. In the end it didn't matter but she was a doofus. To me this was the most difficult part of the process. In interviewing many attorneys I was amazed at how much most of them got wrong in our discussions. As I learned more, my astonishment grew. I'm not sure how to tell people how to go about selecting one except to study as much as possible before interviewing them and go with your gut.
