Are we responsible for property taxes?

We walked away from our house and took bankruptcy in July. It was discharged in October. We did not reaffirm the house. It is now the banks property. Are we responsible for the 2012 property taxes?

Hi, have they actually foreclosed on the property yet and transferred the deed out of your name? Unfortunately until the deed is transferred you are responsible for the taxes and any HOAs (if you have them). Now whether or not you pay the taxes is something else. In many cases if you do not pay taxes and the county puts the house up for tax sale the bank that holds your mortgage will probably step in and pay them. Depending on what state you live in will determine the approx. timeframe it typically takes to go through the foreclosure process. Do a little research here on this site as there is alot of great info and many answers to your questions. Good Luck.

In all states I have checked (and I couldn't tell you which those are, except California), taxes are a lien against the property and the county cannot go after the individual personally for delinquent taxes. If this is true in your state, don't worry about the property taxes.
