Filing brings out the scam artists

I am posting this in the Pro Se forum since we do not have the benefit of attorneys who have seen it all before and can warn us of the scams out there.

Since filing Pro Se on 1/31 my mailbox has been inundated with one goofy offer after another. Mostly for car loans.

Why they think we would want to dive right back into the high interest cesspool before we are even discharged is beyond me, but they are relentless. I am getting a surplus of loan offers, not only for cars, but for cash - thinly veiled payday loans in other words. Why not be honest and send us a notice that says "Hey! You filed bankruptcy, let us help you get right back into the same mess that put you there!" It would be honest of them, anyway.

Today was the topper. I got a very official looking "notice" in the mail. It has my case number, my trustees real name, date & city filed, everything.

Says it is from the "Bankruptcy Notification Division" in Washington, DC - very scary and official sounding.

It goes on to tell me that I can rely on them to send me all the court notices, notice of when I complete my 341, creditor objections, etc. It just goes on and on all official sounding. I had to read it twice to determine it was in fact a sleazy scam.

Then in paragraph 3 of the legalese it starts in on how they "offer a 24-7 help line where I can call and get information about a possible loan pre-qualification.

As we yelled in Alaska when we hooked a big one - "Fish On!"

I did a lot of Googling and this outfit is no better than any of the other scummy loan sharks who troll the bankruptcy filings and start trying to prey on people who are afraid they will never get credit again and will be reduced to taking the bus forever.

You won't. Trust me. Life will go on, you will rebuild your credit and you do not need these sleazebags to do it for you. They are NOT your friend and will not care if they put you right back where you started before you filed BK.

Please, please do not fall for this. Read on this amazing forum, there are smart people here who will help find our way. Do your research. When it comes just throw this rubbish in the bin where it belongs.

It just makes me so angry that these "people" are preying on those who are already in difficulty, probably scared and not sure if what they are seeing is legit or not.

Let's all just be very wary, shall we?

    Thanks for letting me vent.

The day we are born, its all a scam.

The important thing to do is gather knowledge and keep gathering knowledge, and then life becomes joyful.

Personally, I am hitting my stride on many levels, but I keep seeking more knowledge because the scam artists are always going to be out there, lying away and trying to stick me and rob my joy. They should spend their time on others.

Post one and two: Applause!! Both very wise. We use no or little credit. OD protection only. Without doing a thing our credit is 679 at this time. Don't know why as we have no cards and go cash only. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

We had one of those sign in here a few months back and start trolling for 'victims'. We took care of him real quick.

However, we can't control the snail mail, so everyone has to be watchful.....

I've been getting all the crap BK fliers...
They all go in the shredder. Unless they are from the US Bankruptcy Court.

I think I had one similar to the OP, but didn't read it. I read the 1st line then skimmed over. If I see a % sign or the word "load" it's trash.
Can't tell you how many people can help me get a loan for a new car or help me refinance my mortgage.
