    South Carolina Question

    Hello,
I've seen two websites that state you can file for federal exemptions in the state of South Carolina. The Lawyer I'm filing 13 with said I have to file under the SC exemptions. I'm already gettign a bad feeling about the firm I'm going thru - Already hit a few "bumps" that I'm not comfortable with. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

South Carolina exemptions - every source I checked said that state exemptions are the only ones allowed and federal SUPPLEMENTAL exemptions can be used when filing when appropriate.

Federal supplemental exemptions (also known as federal non-bankruptcy exemptions and federal non-exempt bankruptcy exemptions) are *NOT* the same as the federal exemptions that can be selected in some states instead of the filer's state exemptions. I think that's where your confusion is.

Here's the listing of South Carolina's bankruptcy exemptions - http://www.thebankruptcysite.org/exe...hcarolina.html . And here's the list of federal supplemental exemptions that can be used in South Carolina if appropriate in your case - http://www.thebankruptcysite.org/exe...nonexempt.html
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
