    Recording bankruptcy - SF86

    Hello everyoneI

I am new to this forum and havea question about bankruptcy and security clearances. Back in December 2004, I filed for a Chapter 13. There was absolutely no issues during our ordeal and this past year January 2010 I was successfully discharged. Now, my job is requiring a secret clearance and I will have to list this on my SF-86. My question for someone that may know, do I need to list my Chapter 13 bankruptcy or do I need to list all my creditors on this form as well. Please advise. Thanks.

I found the form at http://www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/sf86.pdf.

The instructions are pretty clear that the financial info is for the last 7 years, unless a question specifies otherwise. Since you filed BK in the last 7 years, you have to answer "yes" to 26a. You then have to list the discharged debts on the next page and place an "a" next to the ones that were discharged. At least that's the way I read the form.

In case you are worried about how the BK will affect the security clearance, a couple of people posted on the following thread about their experiences renewing and upgrading security clearances after filing BK: http://www.bkforum.com/showthread.ph...rity+clearance

Filed Chap 13 April 2010. Discharged May 2015.
$143,000 in debt discharged for $36,500, including attorneys fees. Money well spent!
