    Need an Apartment!!!

I filed bankruptcy and it was discharged in March of 2003. All during the bankruptcy and afterwards I have lived with my boyfriend (now X) and now I desperately need an apartment. I have looked for houses through private landlords that do not check credit and the are WAY above and beyond what I am willing to pay. So now and apartment through an apartment managment company is looking like my only option. Since my bankruptcy I have gotten to 2 credit cards (both current) and had one outstanding cell phone bill (that I just paid off today hoping it would help me out) other than that I have had no postive or negative marks on my credit. Can anyone help me out please?

Most property management companies use Safe Rent to check your rental history background. As long as you haven't defaulted on your past rental history. They also conduct credit checks, so prepare yourself to put down a hefty security deposit. The amount of the deposit can vary. Ask them what their lease criterias are for residents that have a BK on thier credit report.

    Good Luck!

I am a apartment manager and I know the company I work for requires that that it has been at least a year since your BK has been discharged and that since then you have good credit history .Other wise with us you would be denied but all companies have diffrerent policy's so I would just ask around see what they say .Also at least here where I live you can go to the Housing Authority and they might bebale to help you get into a place of there own .I don't know how that works there but it's worth calling them and seeing .Hope this helps

BoxerLady, I hope by now you have found an apartment. The way I found one was by simply going to an individual who owns several rental properties (not a management company or real estate office) and candidly explaining my situation and he chose to rent to me and did not charge me any higher of a deposit than he would anyone else. I hope everything is working out for you.
