After reading everything I could on the internet about buying a car after a Chapter 13 Discharge, I was scared to even try. But I think I did pretty well on my first try:

    Date Discharged: 12/14/2007
    2008 Chevy Malibu
    72 Months
    9.14% Financing
    100,000 mile extended warranty
    100,000 road side assistance
    GAP Insurance
    $415.65 per month

My FICO score through Equifax was 685. The Finance Manager said I did a good job cleaning up my report post-discharge and it really helped I was been with the same employer for 10 years. I'm still in shock. Take heart everybody, there is hope and sometimes things end up better than you would think...

Wachovia. The F&I Mananger was able to get me 1.65% above his current best rate of 7.49%. I'm stunned.

            Good for you!!

I hope never to have to finace a new car ever again. I just cant see paying $20K for a car ever again. This after always, I mean always for about 20 years having a car payment month after month after month.

Why not get a new one? I would rather have a new car and no worries than to have a used one and have it break down soon after purchasing it.

                Congrats to the OP!!

What was the actual purchase price of the car?

Please tell me you actually put at least some money down? Just because you "can" get financed, does not mean you "should" finance a bad deal.

                    Plz read.

Cali, I am honestly worried for your financial future. You have the "true" consumer mind set and I hate to say it, I have a feeling that this will not be your only BK. I hope I am wrong, I hope things work out, but your mind set for spending and for analyzing something as a good deal are terribly skewed.

I am sorry if I gave that impression with my post, because I am not like that. My financial problems didn't happen because of my spending habits. They happen because of medical bills and loss of job.

I was just posting from my experiences. Every used car I've had has not lasted long and I ended up spending more on getting things fixed than if I had bought a new car. When I bought the car I have now, it was new but I put down a big down payment.

Opps, sorry, I got you confused with another member, Cali Girl. But still, buying new is still a relatively bad financial decision.
