    Help with Citibank

I live in Florida. Due to my separation and divorce over two years back I had ended up with a huge amount of dept. I sold my home and I have have been able to deal with my creditors directly or with a collection company. I have explained my situation and paid off all my accounts. The only account were I have not beeen able to deal with is Citibank....I have tried to explain and try to negotiate but I have gotten no where. They attained an attorney and served me with a summons. I answered it the same day and again explained how I got into this mess due to my separation and later divorce. I explained how I even decided to sell my home and negotiate with my creditors to have the accounts paid. And that the amount they were asking for $27 thousand plus....was not even my limit amount there fore I was disputing that. I had $6,000.00 left after paying everyone off and I would pay Citi this amount in order to close the account.

But they did not accept this. They're attorney said they would only take 80%. I again explain my situation and they said they would send my a financial affidavit or form of some kind. I told them that I would be willing to pay half of what they say I owe.....and send them $100.00 a month until it was paid.....they said to wait for the financial affidavit. What should I do....should I just start paying Citibank the $100.00 monthly out of good faith attached with a letter explaing why Im paying this amount?

    Please help.

I am worried sick from this acccount.....I have litterly nothing in my name....Im trying to do the right thing....I feel so upset and worried I cant even eat or think straight form this whole ordeal....Please help me with whatever information possible.

Personally, I wouldn't pay on anything until you have some sort of agreement in writing from them. You need to be on the same page as them with regards to how much you are ultimately going to pay them. If they refuse to budge on the $27,000 are you still interested in paying them monthly payments of $100 or does that change what you would want to do with that particular debt? Don't wait til you have paid them several hundred or even thousands of dollars to strike a deal with them.

        Help with Citibank

I am having the same issue with Citibank. I have had my account 19 years and things are very different today with Citibank, if it is any consolation. I called and explained my situation BEFORE it ever got out of control, and they refused to work with me. I offered a payment plan to their in-house collections dept., which they refused. Finally, they charged it off. My credit was spotless, and is now destroyed. I am exploring Chapter 7 because I imagine a summons before too long, and everyone has defaulted my interest rates because of the charge-off. You're not alone! Good luck!

Before I claimed bk I also tried to work with Citibank -
Their favorite word is "SORRY, POLICY" !!!
Finally when they would not work with me in any way, I said "EAT IT, BANKRUPTCY, MY POLICY"............

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

citibanked turned mine over to a collections agency. When i got laid off my visa was at 12k and i have had the account for over seven years. Now with all the stuff they have added on the debt is 17k. the collections guys call me on the time and i just tell them i dont have the money to pay but am kind of 50/50 on filing BK, if there was a way i could get them to say 8k in three lump sum payments id probably do it.
