Foreclosure Of 88-Year-Old Leads to Police Standoff

Authorities said a son held Bergen County sheriff's officers at gunpoint as they tried to evict his 88-year-old mother from her foreclosed home.

Officials said John Brennan threatened two officers with a .22-caliber handgun.

Officers talked to the 60-year-old, who surrendered after about five minutes when a SWAT team arrived Tuesday.

Beatrice Brennan had refinanced her two-bedroom, $250,000 home and had fallen behind on payments. The house was sold at a sheriff's auction in May.

Real estate agent Donovan Stewart told The Record of Bergen County he's "never had anything like this happen before."

      That is sad!

I read a post on this site on how Youngstown, Ohio is demolishing several hundred homes because they are vacant due to foreclosure. They plan on converting it back to woodland. Its a shame that these homes could not be converted to some form of assisted living for people going through foreclosures or evictions. But I guess that wouldnt make sense to begin with. Booting out someone from their home so someone else who doesnt have a home can move it. Hopefully the government will come up with a better plan to address the current housing crisis.

Such a shame at that stage of the game. But yet our wonderful federal government will go and rebuild communites in different countries, but here is a 88 year old women, AMERICAN CITIZEN, kicked out of her home cause the poor lady cannot afford her payment. That just GROSS!!!

It's sad but what are we going to do? We shouldn't ever rebuild communities in different countries unless we are getting some form of return for the taxpayer.
If we provided homes for all AMERICAN CITIZENS we would crash and burn like the soviets did when they provided everything for their citizens.

I have to agree with banca, we can't bail everyone out, in fact we probably shouldn't bail anyone out.

I think its sad that her son felt the need to threaten officers with a gun. Sadly he'll probably end up in jail because of it.

We can provide hospitals, roads, homes, etc. in Iraq, but there isn't a penny for our own people.

              Something is wrong.

The government talks about 'freedom and democracy' but treats us worst then 3rd world citizens at times.

You know its sad indeed that large corporation can ask the government to bail them out when they fall in arrears but the simple grass roots folks of America don't get that chance when something like that happens to them. sad indeed.
